It’s lights out for Green Schools 💚
August 31, 2026
After more than a decade of learning, exploring, conserving and taking action, Efficiency Nova Scotia’s Green Schools Program is turning its lights out.

What began as a pilot in 2011 grew into a province-wide movement, reaching more than 30,000 students each year and engaging more than 80% of schools across Nova Scotia, including CSAP and First Nations schools.

As of August 31, 2026, the province-wide Green Schools Program will come to an end as EfficiencyOne shifts its focus toward initiatives that more directly support energy retrofit projects for Nova Scotia homeowners and businesses.

But while the program is ending, the impact of Green Schools doesn’t end here.
It lives on in the curiosity sparked in classrooms. In the habits that made their way home. In the Green Teams that turned ideas into action. And in the thousands of young Nova Scotians who grew up understanding that the choices we make about energy matter.

For Thinkwell Shift, this one is especially close to our hearts.

For the past 11 years, we’ve had the privilege of delivering Green Schools on behalf of Efficiency Nova Scotia. Our team travelled across the province, walked into thousands of classrooms, worked alongside incredible educators and found creative ways to make energy efficiency relevant, engaging and—most importantly - fun.

To every student who participated, every teacher who welcomed us into their classroom, every administrator and custodian who helped make things happen, every Green Team member who championed an idea, and every partner who believed in what Green Schools could be: thank you.
And to the Thinkwell Shift team members, past and present, who delivered this program with enthusiasm, respect, curiosity and creativity: thank you for growing Green Schools.

Eleven years. Thousands of classrooms. Hundreds of thousands of students reached.
What an impact. What a legacy. 💚

Lights out, Green Schools. We’re incredibly proud of what we built together.
